artist statement
My work is inspired by various surfaces and marks that I observe in the world. Images that people leave behind in the urban landscape interest me. I am attracted to such things as graffiti, diamond plate on surfaces, markings, bits and pieces of announcements and posters that often appear on the light poles and walls of buildings. As I explore the possibilities of creating images from these surfaces and marks, I hope to challenge the viewer to find pictorial unity within the various contrasts and tensions. Color, brush gestures, and shapesthat at timesadvance out of the field or recede into it are my subject.
