This narrative ceramic painting pays homage to the artists' young Black and Brown community. Together and separately, Haylie and Sydnie Jimenez create work that critiques the archaic systems of white supremacy by featuring centerstage the people from the artists' community—and also emphasizing their youthful, punk and rebellious style.

Together and separately, Haylie and Sydnie Jimenez create narrative ceramic paintings that mirror their young Black and Brown community. For the artists, making work is a form of liberation—as well as a way to pay homage to the people in their lives, done through an emphasis on their figures’ youthful, punk and rebellious style. Haylie and Sydnie Jimenez’s work critiques the archaic systems of white supremacy by placing these figures centerstage.
BIO:
Haylie and Sydnie Jimenez were born in Orlando, Florida in 1997. The twins spent most of their adolescence in rural north Georgia. Both received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Illinois in 2020.
Solo and group exhibitions of Haylie and Sydnie Jimenez’s work include: GIVE EM’ PLEASURE. GIVE EM’ HELL at New Image Art in Los Angeles, California; Skirts and Hoodies at Lucy Lacoste Gallery in Concord, Massachusetts; The Universe Within at Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami, Florida; and Dispositivos de Desorientación at Cuen Gallery in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Sydnie Jimenez is a recipient of the 2020 Windgate Fellowship and is currently in residence at The Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana.
