In this monoprint, the artist extends the language of her oil paintings with subject matter taken from mythology, seen in this image of Amazon warriors. The artwork exudes Staver’s joyful exploration of the medium, and her painterly marks transfer naturally into this one-of-a-kind handmade print.
Kyle Staver creates narrative paintings as a means of connecting to the world. The artist starts each composition with a pencil drawing, working progressively through ink wash and watercolor as she expressively develops the scene via an appealing interplay of shadow and color. Staver’s paintings frequently tweak popular myths to explore the space between what her audience expects versus what she presents.
