Yuskavage's figurative works frequently depict characters that are simultaneously exhibitionist and introspective. The figures in the artist's works are fully on display, yet seem aware of themselves and their surroundings. Yuskavage's fantastical compositions challenge the conventions of the genre in their emotional range and formal invention.
