Domestic Objects Arranged Randomly
Part of a series, this painting depicts a tableau of found objects from the artist's studio. A collector of ephemera and trinkets, the artist renders these objects in his sketchbook—later selecting certain views to size up as paintings.
Murphy uses traditional media applications in unusual ways. The artist's work explores and dissolves the boundaries between painting, drawing and mechanical application. Murphy's compositions employ dream-like settings alongside humor and whimsy and often take direct inspiration from the artist's surroundings—including the parks of Brooklyn where he lives and the interior spaces he inhabits.
