As with most of the work in Brandon's “Fire Paintings” series, this painting depicts subjects from the natural world as pared-down icons. In this image, four simple objects stand or float over a simplified field of grass.
With his primary colors and an unabashed immediacy, the artist reimagines the Western tradition of landscape painting. The strict compositional relationships of these icons suggest they correlate within a larger narrative, functioning similarly to hieroglyphics.
