Details:

This artwork, made from a color print applied to an aluminum sculpture, evokes the colors of the ocean sky and the forms of coastal flora. It draws on the artist's experience as a French-Caribbean—in particular, the lemon that adorns the sculpture calls to mind the citrus fruit of the islands.

Combining a color print with an aluminum sculpture, this artwork's composition draws from the forms and colors of nature. The vibrant hues of blue evoke the feeling of clear water and sky, while various coastal flora can be discerned in the outlines of the metal. The directional arrows in the negative space seem to convey a landscape under transition, asking the viewer to see the sculpture as a manufactured sign with contradictory and unresolvable meanings. The artist drew on his experience as a French-Caribbean to create this work—in particular, the lemon that adorns the sculpture calls to mind the citrus fruit of the islands.
