Andy Woll is best known for his abstract paintings of Mount Wilson, a peak that is identifiable from all over Los Angeles, California where he lives. Recently, the artist has begun to paint works that evoke the figure of the horse, another subject important to Woll’s everyday life. Woll’s practice is devoted to repainting his previous compositions, allowing the artist to explore the formal aspects of his medium—simultaneously creating a unique style of bold brushstrokes through spare gestures while incorporating the influence of modernist artists and literary figures.
