Dana Schutz

Dana Schutz's work frequently depicts scenarios from another reality, which is populated by figures that participate in violent and creative activities, as well as impossible and contradictory situations. The artist's fictional subjects have included: people who can eat themselves; a gravity fanatic; imaginary births and deaths; and public/private performers. Schutz draws influence from cubism and expressionism, as well as other movements of the 20th and 21st century—creating images that have an air of familiarity while remaining entirely unique.
