Drea Cofield’s practice reimagines contemporary portraiture by transforming digital selfies into intimate oil paintings. In her ongoing "selfie" project Send N*des, she paints from images sent by individuals, often self-portraits captured in mirrors with natural lighting. These small-scale works retain the immediacy of the original photographs while inviting slower, more deliberate viewing. By emphasizing the subject’s gaze and agency, Cofield challenges traditional portraiture and offers a reinterpretation centered on self-representation.
