Miranda Fengyuan Zhang's fiber works exist at the border of abstraction and representation. She combines a free and formal approach to knitting and weaving, depicting semi-abstract landscapes and animal subjects that are mysterious yet familiar using leftover industrial threads from Chinese factories. Zhang’s trans-generational practice juxtaposes contemporary experience with tradition, harkening back to the origins of object-making and taking inspiration from her grandmother's practice of up-cycling old garments.
