Sarah Lucas

Associated with the Young British Artist cohort that emerged in the 1990s, Sarah Lucas' work encompasses sculpture, photography and installation. The artist frequently uses commonplace items—furniture and food, among others—as substitutes for the body, frequently creating visual puns that evoke human genitals. Lucas' work dismantles myths and stereotypes surrounding sexual difference—subverting the male gaze while challenging sexual politics in both the production of art and its reception.
