Pie in the Sky
The painting features a combination of airbrushed and screen-printed imagery. For Asghar, fruit represents youth and vitality as well as the concepts of hopefulness and unattained dreams—an idea both potent and political for the artist, who identifies as both a brown person and a woman of color. The airbrushed background is painted from photographs of the sky the artist took using her phone. Asghar’s sophisticated work explores her American experience through a multitude of cultural motifs, mixing imagery from across cultures.
