Blair Whiteford synthesizes painterly techniques and foundational motifs from across the Western canon to produce simultaneously ancient and futuristic compositions. Drawing from fields as diverse as French Poststructuralism, cybernetics, nuclear physics and contemporary American literature, Whiteford symbolically connects a wide range of visual aesthetics. His fluid brushwork produces surfaces that teeter between figuration and abstraction as a comment on the human psyche and soul.

Blair Whiteford

Working in a combination of oil, acrylic and watercolor paint, Blair Whiteford synthesizes painterly techniques and foundational motifs from across the Western canon to produce simultaneously ancient and futuristic compositions. By drawing from fields as diverse as French Poststructuralism, cybernetics, nuclear physics and contemporary American literature, Whiteford symbolically portrays rhizomatic connections between art, natural science, theology and organizations of power. Reassessing the American Postwar Ab-Ex movement, his fluid brushwork produces surfaces that teeter between figuration and abstraction as a comment on the human psyche and soul.

Blair Whiteford was born in 1990 in New York City, NY, where he still lives. He received his MFA from Yale University in New Haven, CT (2019) and his BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL (2013).
