Chase Biado’s paintings realign beauty and ugliness, depicting an imagined world that mixes fantasy and daily life. The artist’s work combines a highly saturated palette with vibratory lines and rhythmic mark making, rendering the picture plane a psychological space. Biado’s compositions are populated by fantasy beings that wander dreamlike spaces—a place where goblins and rat people replace the human figure and have full interior lives.

BIO:

Chase Biado was born in 1985. The artist received a BFA from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon in 2012. 

Biado exhibits both under his own name as well as one half of the art and design duo A History of Frogs, alongside his partner Antonia Pinter.

Solo exhibitions of Biado’s work have taken place at: Noon Projects in Los Angeles, California; Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia; and Appendix Projects Space in Portland, Oregon; among others.

Group exhibitions that have shown Biado’s work have taken place at: The Pit in Los Angeles, California; VODA in Seoul, South Korea; Marta in Los Angeles, California; Bozo Mag in Los Angeles, California; The Neutra VDL House in Los Angeles, California; Helen’s Costume in Portland, Oregon; and Lowell in Portland, Oregon; among others.
