Transferable Memory (Third)

This painting depicts smoke floating peacefully from joss sticks as snails weave through vessels of lamentation. Scientists are now seemingly able to transplant the memory of one snail into another; the snails in this work represent both memories that are adrift and the insatiable human desire for recollection. This meditative composition was created with deliberate slowness and quietude. The artist repeated small and detailed gestures day after day that accumulated on the wooden panel until a collectivity was formed.

Crys Yin's paintings, drawings and sculptures tell stories of mis/connections, finding contentment in both the banality and absurdity of humanity. The artist skews perspectives, distorts scale and compulsively employs repetition to depict slightly off-kilter worlds.
