About the artist:
Dan Rees works across painting, photography, performance, and sculpture, creating concept-driven pieces rooted in process. He gained recognition for his Artex paintings, begun in 2011, which repurpose a textured coating associated with 1970s British working-class interiors—both decorative and culturally specific. More recently, he has explored marbling on linen, drawing on traditional papercraft and bookmaking techniques. Across these bodies of work, Rees subtly challenges aesthetic hierarchies, blending abstraction with references to social and material history.
