Elizabeth Schwaiger is a research-based artist whose work depicts the looming climate crises and the power dynamics behind it. Her paintings frequently employ water symbolism as well as techniques such as overlay. Schwaiger constructs images exploring the precarious present as well as the interplay of the unseen forces that govern our world—while also providing the viewer with a moment to pause and reflect.
Elizabeth Schwaiger was born in Texas in 1985. She received her MFA from the Glasgow School of Art in 2011.
Schwaiger’s work has been exhibited in numerous venues and biennials, including at: the Walker Gallery National Museum in Liverpool, UK; the Mackintosh Museum at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, UK; the National Portrait Gallery in London, UK; the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, UK; the Glasgow International in Glasgow, UK; the Embassy Gallery in Edinburgh, UK; the Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, Texas; and Co-Lab Projects and GrayDUCK Gallery in Austin, Texas.
Schwaiger was recently awarded a residency by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation at the artist's studio estate on Captiva Island, Florida.
Schwaiger lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
