About the artist:
Elizabeth Shull's work, meditative in form and process, holds a seductive steadiness that transports the viewer to a murmuring liminal space. By combining the lyrical, the narrative, and the abstract she takes you to a participatory place in order to experience wonderment and mystery in the connectedness of the natural world. Shull's mark making, that of dialogic exploration, is her way of making what is invisible visible, merging imagination with real time in a visceral way.
Elizabeth Shull is a Los Angeles-based artist originally from Southern California. Rendered with poetic sensitivity and contemplative precision, her work explores the nuanced intersections between the natural world and the internal landscape.
Shull has exhibited with Lowell Ryan Projects, Los Angeles, CA; Nino Mier Gallery, New York, NY; M+B, Los Angeles, CA; Pamela Salisbury Gallery, Hudson, NY; The Drawing Center, New York, NY; Art Division, Los Angeles, CA; Simard Bilodeau Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA; MePaintsMe; and Project Gallery V; among others. Her work has been featured in Harper’s Magazine, The Drawing Stall's Compendium of Colored Pencil, Majuscule, The Brooklyn Rail, ArtMaze Mag, Posit Journal, Venti Journal, and LA Art Documents.
Shull holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MFA from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles.

Elizabeth Shull brings each image from darkness into light. The use of black paper becomes an originative space where light sublimely emerges through layered, sensitive marks. Each piece begins from a word, thought, or phrase the artist wants to translate visually, much like a visual poem. Although the work is intimate in size, there is evidence that she is a keen, visceral observer, wanting to make sense of the largeness and connectivity of the unspeakable natural world.More
