① Artwork:

Presence

This work was painted from observation, which the artist finds to be an effective method for quieting the mind and becoming present in the moment. Much of the artist's work is interested in the meditative quality of painting using this technique. This composition challenges viewers to unwrap and unfold themselves from everything but the present moment—so that they may receive the gift of being.

James Morse’s paintings use land imagery as a language to explore the imperfections of human creativity and labor. The artist creates studies while on-site and later transforms these studies into expressive landscape paintings that embrace the interpretive nature of life. Drawing inspiration from abstract expressionist painters such as Lois Dodd and Jane Freilicher, Morse’s paintings contemplate the vicissitudes of humanity on the natural world.
