The cuicui series is an ode to the fugitive beauty of birds. As majestic and grandiose as they seem in Lou Ros’s work, their actual fragility reflects the one of nature as a whole. By changing their scale (sometimes in a radical way), Lou Ros suggests we change our focus to pay attention to what could go unnoticed otherwise.

Lou Ros frequently paints landscapes and close-ups of birds. Ros’ paintings exclude any human presence or construction in order to memorialize nature. The artist wants his paintings to bring that which is not immediately visible—our sensory relationship to time and space—into existence.

③ Artist:

Lou Ros

Lou Ros paints his favorite subjects, landscapes and close-ups of birds, using hybrid painting techniques (which employ a combination of acrylic, spray paint and pastel) to materialize his final images. Ros aims for his paintings to bring that which is not immediately visible—our sensory relationship to time and space—into existence. Dismissing more naturalistic projections, the artist reimagines natural imagery as a method of contemplation—examining what place humans have in this world.

Lou Ros was born in 1984 in Pithiviers, France, and currently resides in Paris, France.

He has mounted recent solo exhibitions that include: Vanishing Area at Galerie Romero Paprocki in Paris, France (2021); Somewhere² at Allouche Gallery, New York City, NY (2018); and Quelque Part at Galerie Flash in Munich, Germany (2018), among others.

The artist’s recent group exhibitions include: Blur Me Tender, Galerie Romero Paprocki, Paris, France (2022); uGLY, Yiri Arts, Taipei, Taiwan (2022); and I believe I can fly, Commissariat Julien Carbone, Le port des Createurs, France (2021).
