This collaborative print, made by two artists, combines text and image. The artists synthesized their distinctive styles to create a composition that is both humorous and cutting in its approbation of imagery and language.
Marcel Dzama and Raymond Pettibon have worked on a number of collaborative projects over the years, including: individual drawings; dual-artist exhibitions; and the publication of combined artist zines. This is the first time the two artists have collaborated with Brooke Alexander as a pair. The imagery in this print is a result of the artist's back-and-forth responses in collaboration with the Derriere L’ Etoile print studio.

BIO:
DZAMA: Marcel Dzama's signature work explores the boundary between reality and the subconscious. His compositions, often rendered with fairy tale elements, draw on both the traditional art canon and folk art principles. Dzama's works create a universe that visualizes childhood fantasies and otherworldly myths.
PETTIBON: Raymond Pettibon's drawings intermix image and text to explore pop and commercial culture's visual articulation. The artist incorporates language from classic texts and mass media alongside a wide spectrum of American iconography, including: literature, art history, philosophy, religion, politics, sports and alternative youth culture. Pettibon’s drawing practice harkens back to the traditions of satire and social critique in the work of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century artists and caricaturists—while reinforcing the importance of the medium within contemporary art and culture today.
