This painting, inspired by the artist's own summer, depicts a female figure in a careless state. The woman is reflecting on her choices up to this moment while simultaneously daydreaming about what lies ahead–with no sense of urgency or anxiousness. The composition implies that the subject is swimming in the nude, or skinny dipping, which typically happens in the evening when the chance of being seen is slight. In this case, the figure has decided to do so in the middle of the day.

While working on this piece, the artist was thinking about how often she struggles with feeling truly free. About this feeling, Harris said: “Most women that I know regularly fantasize about being able to do whatever/whenever without any consideration of 'rules' or outside opinion.”

Megan Gabrielle Harris’ work typically features women of color depicted as powerful, regal and divine; these figures are often painted against a rich and vibrant backdrop. Influenced by travel and nature, the artist explores dreamscapes and the concept of escape—an idea she identifies with the artwork of her father, Thomas Harris. Megan Gabrielle Harris taps into many elements of her father's work for her own practice, including: joy, sorrow, hopefulness, curiosity, fearlessness and the beauty of solitude.
