McGowen’s artworks represent daydreams filled with relaxation, in which she plays the lead role. It’s a slow and simplistic world without errands, lists, and schedules, where one can sleep with flowers and live in a personal utopia.

Payton McGowen lives and works in Austin, Texas.

She recently mounted solo exhibitions at Martha's Contemporary in 2022 and 2020.
