Rachel Domm investigates the physical boundaries between our bodies and the items we buy, wear, consume and inhabit. By giving familiar objects larger-than-life proportions and luminous colors, Domm imbues them with surprising mystery. But Domm’s intimate renderings also communicate our deep need for respite from the dizzying proliferation of products and images that constantly vie for our attention.

Rachel Domm investigates the physical boundaries between our bodies and the items we buy, wear, consume and inhabit. She enlivens common or familiar objects by giving them larger-than-life proportions and luminous, vivid colors that add mysterious overtones and animism. Curves, folds, mounds, cavities, and shadows create sculptural presences that invoke analogous, corporeal forms. By lingering on these quiet, grounded moments, Domm’s intimate renderings also communicate a deep need for respite from the dizzying proliferation of products and images constantly vying for our attention.

Rachel Domm was born in 1982 in Atlanta, GA, and lives in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute.

Domm has mounted solo exhibitions at One River School in Westport, CT and Woodbury, NY (2022); Essex Flowers in New York City, NY (2020, 2018); Picture Room in New York City, NY (2014); and Printed Matter in New York City, NY (2013).

She has been included in group exhibitions at 2413 Hyperion in Los Angeles, CA (2023); Tops Gallery in Memphis, TN (2022); Clare V. in Brooklyn, NY (2022); Essex Flowers in New York City, NY (2021); Underdonk in Brooklyn, NY (2019); and others.

Her work has been featured in The New Yorker, Arte Fuse, Art in Print, The New York Times, and other publications. She completed residencies at Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT (2017) and Banff Centre in Banff, Canada (2016).
