The Approach
This painting of minimalist brown, gray, pink and yellow shapes is from a series the artist credits to the emotions he felt while witnessing a solar eclipse in 2012. It was the first time he “felt the material world and my interior world become one.”
For Carmona, witnessing the Sun, Moon, and Earth align to create a shadow upon his personage was a uniquely intense emotional experience that felt almost mystical or supernatural. Since then, the artist has consistently searched for a place where the material part of a painting can meet his emotional narrative.
