About the artist:
Toby Rosenbloom seeks the surprise and the extraordinary within the ordinary sights of daily life. Their process begins with discovering compelling structures in everyday environments, followed by sketching and capturing reference photographs. From there, paintings evolve gradually over time through exploration- playing with color combinations, experimenting with textures, and allowing each work to develop organically.
Toby Rosenbloom (Canadian b. 1966) studied painting at OCAD, has a degree in Mathematics from McGill University and has taught Communications Technology and Digital Art for over 20 years. She studied drawing and painting in Florence, Italy and at the Royal Drawing School in London, England. She has participated in group art shows in London, Glasgow and with 57W57 (New York) the Porch Series. Her paintings have found homes in collections throughout Canada, the UK, Australia and the US.

The paintings in this series emerge from unexpected visual triggers—subtle contrasts within everyday scenes. The golden-hour shadows in The House across from Saint Charbel’s, the small yellow bush beneath the heavy underpass in Leaving America, and the brick wall of a cemetery in Cherry Blossom were all discovered while exploring different cities on foot or by car. Each painting developed through an intuitive process of play, trial and error, and sustained experimentation, until the balance of color, texture, and mood felt faithful to the original spark that inspired it.More
