Prairie
This painting features layers of rectilinear strips and hazy passages of paint punctuated by fields of dots and patches of designs. The artist populates his dynamic works with irregular shapes and clashing planes that are constantly in flux.
Dodge's playful application of oil paint onto the canvas involves building, disposing and transforming thick layers with fluid brushstrokes. Each canvas is activated by a coalescence of color and pattern—emerging forms that are alternately fluid, rhythmic, anchored and entangled. The artist’s energetically-worked canvases combine an investigation of form with an exploration of the inherent physicality in the act of painting and in paint itself.

Dodge’s paintings are constantly in flux, coalescing into compositions of organized chaos that challenge viewers to reflect on the process and meaning of picture-making.
BIO:
Tomory Dodge was born in Denver, Colorado in 1974. The artist received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island in 1998, and a MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California in 2004. The artist also completed the Rhode Island School of Design European Honors Program in Rome, Italy in 1997.
