Details:

As with most of the work in Brandon's “Fire Paintings” series, this painting depicts subjects from the natural world as pared-down icons. Here, a broken column hovers over a green field, with a logo-like flame, in turn, floating above it. To its right is a depiction of a larger, raging fire, with a peaceful-looking daisy standing next to it. With his primary colors and an unabashed immediacy, the artist reimagines the Western tradition of landscape painting. The strict compositional relationships of these icons suggest they correlate within a larger narrative, functioning similarly to hieroglyphics.

Tyler Brandon

Tyler Brandon is a collector of knowledge, from the history of civilizations to Renaissance masters’ painting techniques. In his oil paintings, he utilizes a visual language consisting of timeless elements rendered in a universally recognizable manner. Familiar objects—flowers, columns, and an almost emoji-like flame—hold an immediacy and frontality, and their straightforward rendering suggests they be read rather than viewed. For Brandon, the common denominator throughout his oeuvre is the truth: from the truths of universal math to that of a child’s mark-making. He feels that these simple elements unite us before we take on the complexities of society.

Tyler Brandon was born in 1991 in Hollywood, FL, and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Brandon mounted his debut solo exhibition at Shelter in New York City, NY (2022).

His art has been included in group shows at galleries such as Shelter in New York City, NY; COUNTY in Palm Beach, FL; and others.
