In Ormsby's work, color and texture take the lead as washes of gesso, loose charcoal lines, and thick pools of oil paint build into layered, atmospheric surfaces. Figures and scenes are pared down to their simplest forms, where mood and texture suggest more than they describe. Ormsby’s blend of restraint and expressiveness carries echoes of Vuillard, Bonnard, and Munch, while remaining distinctly contemporary.

About the artwork:

Tyler Ormsby's work utilizes a deeply intuitive palette shaped by nature, memory, and daily life. Organic forms, time spent in the ocean, and quiet moments with family coalesce into an ever evolving visual language that oscillates between legibility and open ended narratives. Ormsby reinterprets these lived experiences through gesture and color, crafting works that are as emotionally honest as they are formally inventive.
