HANK LUMEN
SPOTLIGHT:
HANK LUMEN
Hank Lumen is a self-described “weirdwestern” painter based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Lumen builds his paintings without a fixed image in mind, working through color, texture, and gesture before cutting back and clarifying the composition. The result holds onto both stages—the looseness of the buildup and the control of the reduction. The surfaces are dense, visibly worked, and materially direct, giving the paintings their grit without leaning into nostalgia or romanticism.
