FREE ART STACKS
FREE ART STACKS
Collect all four limited-printed run broad sheets.
Each year, billions of dollars of art changes hands during the month of May. Though the auction results sometimes make the news, that world of art feels like a bubble entirely separate from real life.
But why can't real life include great art? It should. To that end, we're making art available for free, for anyone's real life. With permission from four artists — Sam Bornstein, Bel Fullana, Tanja Nis-Hansen, and Gretta Johnson — Platform has adapted four paintings from our May selection into stacks of printed sheets, for anyone to bring home.
Platform's Free Art Stacks project is inspired by Felix Gonzalez-Torres' stacks, where the intention was, in part, for people to "take individual sheets of paper from the stack. These individual sheets and all individual sheets taken from the stack collectively do not constitute a unique work of art nor can they be considered the piece…its uniqueness is defined by ownership."
Each of Platform's four Free Art Stacks will reside at a different store we love in New York:
Starting May 12 at The Webster, 29 Greene St, New York, NY 10013.
Starting May 13 at The Primary Essentials, 372 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217.
Starting May 14 at BEAM, 272 Kent Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249.
Starting May 15 at Sandy Liang, 28 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002.
Visit each one to own all four, define your own unique art experiences, and give your support to local businesses here in New York.
