ROSE WYLIE: LIMITED-EDITION LITHOGRAPH

ROSE WYLIE: LIMITED-EDITION LITHOGRAPH

More about the artist, her career and this signature work.

Rose Wylie's work is exemplified by colorful, exuberant compositions that are immediately accessible while still defying simple categorization within any one style or movement. Based in Kent, England, Wylie (who studied at Folkestone and Dover School of Art, Kent, and the Royal College of Art, London) expertly reduces forms to their essence, condensing a multitude of contemporary thoughts, ebullient feelings and charged memories to elicit a diverse range of responses. As a whole, Wylie's art is a kind of visual shorthand designed to be direct and highly legible.

Exclusive to Platform, the artist is releasing a lithograph inspired by early 20th-century Valentine's Day cards depicting Cupid in different parts of the world. The Shamrock Cupid card Wylie chose to reference for this work features an original transcription (which reads: “the little Shamrock Cupid, / he’s a gem in Erin’s crown! / all Irish lads and lassies know / whenever he’s in town.”) that the artist has prefaced with her own text. This print explores many of Wylie's signatures, such as the sprawling script and the brown arrow, like the one on the right side of this image, all rendered with the clarity and warmth synonymous with her work.
