Audrey Lyall

Audrey Lyall uses varied materials—from collaged paper to found objects—to create densely-packed, Afro-futurist paintings, sculptures, and clothing. She navigates multiple concepts in her practice, including: racial identity, beauty standards, and the dichotomy between today’s artificial beauty regimens and traditional beauty rituals relating to the African diaspora. Of particular interest to Lyall is the "hypervisibility" created by social media and celebrity culture. Ultimately, the artist seeks to highlight the absurdities of beauty expectations of the current climate and encapsulate the histories behind them.
