For Cathedral, the artist placed a stained-glass church window alongside a tree against the backdrop of a sunset. Neifeld noticed that the branching forms of the window echo those of the tree and positioned them side by side to highlight this visual resonance. The painting explores the interplay between natural and constructed forms, emphasizing pattern, symmetry, and the dialogue between human design and organic growth.

About the artist:

Ana Neifeld draws from a wide range of traditions, including medieval illuminated manuscripts, Rembrandt, American self-taught artists, and German Expressionism, approaching painting as a form of inquiry. Her work merges observation, imagination, and narrative, bending form to convey a felt, multidimensional experience. She is drawn to moments that are ordinary yet verge on the otherworldly, using painting to hold complexity and the ineffable with subtlety and care.

Ana Grace Neifeld (b. 1999, Oakland, California) is an artist based in Queens who works primarily in oil painting. She combines observation, memory, imagination, and narrative in her practice.

Neifeld received her BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2022. She has participated in residencies at the Charles Demuth Museum (2025) and Art at Kings Oaks (2024). In 2025, her work was acquired by the Charles Demuth Museum.

Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (2023) and multiple prizes from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Neifeld has exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States and internationally, with recent exhibitions at the Charles Demuth Museum and Procession Gallery (Philadelphia), and upcoming shows at Steven Harvey Fine Arts Gallery (New York) and Richter Galeria (Rome).
