Funny Feeling

This dreamlike painting features the artist's trademark fantastical creatures and strange landscapes. This work has a subtlety and lightness that is playful, even humorous.

Schiff has been a doodler since childhood. The artist's works include small notebook sketches, which he brings to fuller realization through his painting process. For his compositions, Schiff distorts, displaces, enlarges and compresses everyday experience with impressions he gathers from the unconscious. The result is a haunting iconography that recalls the symbolism of Arnold Böcklin, the alienation and anxiety of Edvard Munch and the fairylands of Leonora Carrington.
