Born in Montreal, Dagny Bock draws inspiration from the landscapes, weather, and seasons that shape our experience of the world, often using her hometown as a muse. Her work balances beauty and rhythm, exploring the harmony and tension of color and form. Influenced by the Italian countryside, the rocky coast of Maine, and the Canadian Shield, Bock approaches painting with curiosity and delight in color. In her trees, skies, and softly rounded forms, there is a purity that feels almost otherworldly, inviting viewers to encounter both the physical world and the soul within it.

Paint tubes are like genies in a bottle: once you squeeze them, you never know what you are unleashing. It’s highly addictive.

Influenced by the style of her grandmothers, the Italian countryside, the grace of animals, the elegance of trees, the rocky coast of Maine with its scent of salt and pine, the Canadian Shield, and Rick Danko, Dagny delights in squeezing paint tubes to see what will happen. Color is magic—just think of the Blue-footed Booby!

Bock has presented solo exhibitions at Galerie L’Espace in Montreal (2024, 2023), Galerie Emanuel Cazeault in Montreal (Rooted in the Clouds, 2018), MAA in Montreal (2017, 2016, 2012, 2010), Galerie CO in Montreal (2015), and EM in Montreal (A Public Hanging, 2009).
