About the artist:

Ebecho Muslimova creates paintings and works on paper that combine self-consciousness, comedy and vulnerability. The artist is known for her raucous and sexually uninhibited character “Fatebe,” whose physical contortions and unpredictable quandaries play out like performances on the canvas.

BIO:

Ebecho Muslimova was born in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia in 1984. The artist received a BFA at Cooper Union in New York City in 2010.

Solo exhibitions of Muslimova’s work have taken place at: David Zwirner in London, UK; Magenta Plains in New York City; Galerie Maria Bernheim in Zürich, Switzerland; White Flag Projects in St. Louis, Missouri; and Room East in New York City.

Group exhibitions that have shown Muslimova’s work have taken place at: Eva Presenhuber in Zürich, Switzerland; Kunsthalle St. Gallen in Switzerland; Tanya Leighton in Berlin, Germany; Delmes & Zander in Cologne, Germany; and Ellis King in Dublin, Ireland.

In 2017, Muslimova created a large-scale mural for the 32nd Biennale of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia. 

Muslimova’s work has been featured in publications such as: Forbes, The New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, Mousse, Artnet, Hyperallergic, and CURA., among others.

Muslimova is included in Jeffrey Deitch’s book Unrealism that features 27 artists and major essays by Johanna Fateman, Alison Gingeras and Aria Dean.

Muslimova lives and works in New York City.
