About the artist:
Hermes' works explore his consciousness through playful cartoon imagery and satirical text. While each piece tells its own story, together they show his resistance to complexity and his desire to find simplicity in a chaotic world. Viewers are left to interpret what’s truly going on beneath the surface, as the meaning is often hidden behind humor and distortion.
Henrique Hermes (b. 1994) is a Portuguese artist from Porto, Portugal. Hermes is currently based in Caldas de Rainha, Portugal, where he creates his often unpredictable yet deeply intentional paint- ings. His work consistently utilizes a mixed-media approach, combining airbrush, acrylic, and oil paint. Hermes has been featured in a group exhibition at Gallerie Ground in Brooklyn, New York, as well as in three solo shows: Raro in Genoa, Italy, Galeria Diferença in Lisbon, and Asher Koondel in New York City.
