This work on paper depicts the external and internal contours of a foot rendered in swirls of colored pencil markings. Feet reappear in Slagboom's work as the body part that carries the most physical weight, and also, symbolically, as the weight that history exerts on the entire body.

Over the last four decades, Pieter Slagboom has created an iconographic world of large-scale colored pencil drawings. His works are ethereal and poetic, an analysis of contemporary society that examines how culture and religion circumscribe the body. They also depict a private inner world full of delicately rendered forms.
