Untitled

The legs and tail of a rodent are seen disappearing into disembodied male anatomy in this work of colored pencil on paper. By compressing multiple images into the same space, the artist creates what they refer to as an interpretation vacuum. This is when depicting an observation becomes intertwined with images that the artist has carried with them all their life. Untitled appears in salt, the monograph of Slagboom's work published in 2017.

③ Artist:

Pieter Slagboom

Over the last four decades, Pieter Slagboom has created an iconographic world of large-scale colored pencil drawings. His works are ethereal and poetic, an analysis of contemporary society that examines how culture and religion circumscribe the body. They also depict a private inner world full of delicately rendered forms.
