Kamada's paintings emerge through a process of layering, erasure, and renewal, allowing each surface to develop over time. Hints of landscape and natural forms drift between abstraction and representation, evoking memory rather than place. Working without preparatory sketches, Kamada embraces intuition, creating paintings that invite slow, sustained looking.

About the artist:

Rafael Kamada (b. 1993) currently lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. Kamada’s paintings offer no clear point of entry – their strength lies not in depiction but in atmosphere, in how they evoke a remnant of landscape, a momentary bloom, or the shadow of structure dissolving in light. Through a slow, layered process of application, removal, and reapplication, Kamada builds surfaces that carry the weight of time while remaining open to disruption, evoking traces of the natural world that blur the boundary between figuration and abstraction. Kamada works primarily at night and without preparatory sketches, combining instinct and inquiry, guided by a quiet rigor.

He has exhibited at Storage Gallery, New York; Galeria Almeida e Dale, São Paulo; Flexa Galeria, Rio de Janeiro; and Galeria Refresco, Rio de Janeiro, among others.
