Sandler’s current multi-media practice examines the relationship between desire, acts of identification and meaning.

Robert Sandler

Robert Sandler's practice frequently deconstructs meaning by frustrating the viewer’s desire. He playfully explores our collective fantasies in images that reference popular culture and parody domestic life. Spanning across multiple media and a range of styles, Sandler’s work charts the political possibilities of excess and failure.

BIO:

Robert Sandler was born in 1991 in Baltimore, Maryland. He holds an MFA in painting from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.

A solo exhibition of Sandler’s work took place at Kai Matsumiya Gallery in New York City in 2021.

Other exhibitions showing Sandler’s work include: Show Me the Signs at Blum & Poe in Los Angeles, California (2020); But Nobody Showed Up at Kai Matsumiya in New York City (2019); Hypomnemata at Institute for New Connotative Action in Seattle, Washington, and also Idealuh-huh.tumblr.com in Berlin, Germany (2017); and Lumination at Patricia Low Contemporary in Gstaad, Switzerland (2015).
