A Message in the Sand

In this text-based painting made from hand-cut and painted wood relief, letterforms from the work’s title inspire the architecture of the artwork. Moving left to right and top to bottom, these forms reinterpret traditional modes of communication, offering a reconsidered visual language that encourages the viewer to engage more deeply with the work’s sentiment.

In this series, each individual piece found in an artwork is individually cut, hand-laminated (to achieve the relief quality), sanded, painted, and reassembled.

Scott Albrecht informs his art with typography, language, and design. He typically begins with a phrase, quote, or maxim, which he then deconstructs and reconfigures into a combination of shapes, colors, and patterns, offering a new visual language with alternate ways for the viewer to absorb the art’s message.

③ Artist:

Scott Albrecht

Known for his wood relief paintings, ink drawings, large-scale murals, and mixed media sculptures, Scott Albrecht informs his work with typography, language, and design. He typically begins with a phrase, quote, or maxim, which he then deconstructs and reconfigures into a combination of shapes, colors, and patterns. Seemingly abstract artworks hold hidden meanings, which, in turn, inform their making. As such, this new visual language creates alternate ways for the viewer to engage with the art’s message.
