Three Legs but Four Leaves - If That Ain't Luck
This painting of a 4-leaf clover and a three-legged chair functions as a sort of self-portrait of the artist. The composition combines a symbol of luck with a deceiving invitation to rest. The artist's dynamic work frequently depicts expressively bent figures in spaces that the protagonists dissect, organize and animate.
Schwarz's work draws from ancient myth and philosophy as much as from our contemporary moment—combining the present and the past with a subtle portion of sarcasm and dark humor. The artist's paintings function as both inward- and outward-directed observations, exploring personal questions about love, new beginnings and the celebration of life. Schwarz's work also examines identity and current sociological, psychological and political issues. The artist's compositions are both allegorical and steeped in riddles, functioning as dynamic processes suspended in time.
