ABOUT:

Below Grand is a commercial gallery and curatorial collective located at 53 Orchard Street on New York City’s Lower East Side. Steered by artists, the gallery provides artists with an enriching gallery experience built on solidarity, community, and safe harbor by understanding the stresses and material circumstances of the commercial art market. Below Grand’s ultimate goal is to develop a polyphonic, multivalent artistic community by creating a horizontal empowerment structure across multiple communities. The gallery focuses on introducing new artists to its art community while addressing imbalance and giving context through curation. Below Grand is passionate about curation as an act of discovery, recovery and restoration, with the understanding that it is an act of identifying already present communities to build a visual counterculture.
