Untitled Shuswap Lake, B.C. #20, April 15th

This painting is part of a series meditating on the connection between the artist and his surroundings. Over a three-year span, Herald Nix took almost daily rowboat excursions onto Shuswap Lake in British Columbia to document the area. In each work, the artist mixes painterly gestures with carved lines and scraped surfaces to capture his experience of a single place through seasonal changes of light and weather. His method of repeatedly portraying the same subject matter is similar to a musical reprise in slow motion. With each new iteration, the artist is entranced and carried away by their process.
