Fallen Blossom (femme) is the most recent work in Albuquerque's The Meadow series - in which she imagines a meadow of hybrid human and flower forms that traces the parallels between cultural and ecological evolution. The sculpture is informed by the visual legacies of Georgia O'Keefe and Robert Mapplethorpe, framing the orchid as a universal signifier of desire. Featuring a human-scaled orchid face cast in solid bronze, the works enacts an allegorical process, eternalizing this expression of desire across species and temporal registers.

About the artist:

Isabelle Albuquerque’s formally powerful and psychologically charged sculpture invites multiple, simultaneous readings and perspectives. With a background in performance, Albuquerque uses her own body to investigate the protean nature of identity and to create a cross-temporal conversation that centers the experiences of women and their own connection to desire, sexuality and embodiment.
