Details:

This painting immerses the viewer in an intimate, liminal space. In it, an unmade bed, half-lit by soft sunlight, emits an overwhelming sense of tenderness. Playing with texture and shadows, the artist freezes a familiar moment in time—one offering only subtle narrative information, such as a fresh dent in the pillow or a pulled-back sheet. Ultimately, it creates a sense of indeterminacy and feeling that’s more powerful than a straightforward narrative.

Ivana Štulić’s paintings are reflections of the events that shape us. She does not intend to depict a scene, event, or space but to capture the psychology of specific moments of precarious transition before or after something changes. By visualizing these phenomena, pregnant with meaning, she creates highly charged images of implied tensions, presenting more than the mere objects rendered.
